Motherboard Repair — Board-Level & Microsoldering Across Eastern MA
No power, liquid damage, a dead charging circuit, a damaged HDMI port — these are board-level repairs, not parts swaps. Our technicians diagnose the board itself under a microscope in-house at Watertown and Wakefield, and we quote the price after diagnosis, not before.

If This Sounds Like Your Device, It's Probably the Board
These are the exact symptoms customers describe on the phone and at the counter, most often. Here's what they usually mean before we've even opened the device.
A no-power fault on the board itself — the power rail or a PMIC-level component has failed. Rarely a bad battery if it doesn't respond to any charger at all.
A charging IC failure on the board, not the battery or the cable. This is a precision microsoldering repair, not a port swap.
A backlight circuit fault on the board, not a dead screen. This can sometimes be repaired without replacing the panel at all.
The HDMI port has come loose or been damaged where it's soldered to the board — often from a snagged cable. It's the single most common console repair we see.
A short circuit or failing power component on the board. We isolate the short before doing any further repair, since powering it on repeatedly can spread the damage.
Corrosion is spreading across the board from the inside out. The sooner it's brought in for cleaning, the more of the board is usually salvageable.
A power delivery fault on the motherboard itself — if new parts didn't fix it, the problem was never the charger or battery to begin with.
Impact can crack a solder joint or dislodge a component without leaving any visible damage. A dead device after a drop is a board diagnostic, not a guess.

Motherboards We Repair
If it has a circuit board, we can at least diagnose it for free. Below is where we see the most motherboard repair requests — each device links to its full repair page for screen, battery, and other parts-swap services.
iPhone Motherboard Repair
No-power iPhones, water-damaged logic boards, and charging ICs that won't hold a charge are some of our most common board-level jobs. We're not an Apple Authorized Service Provider — board work uses high-quality aftermarket and OEM-quality compatible components, and we're upfront about that before any repair starts.
Samsung & Android Motherboard Repair
Galaxy phones and other supported Android devices with board-level faults — a dead board after a drop, corrosion from moisture, or a charging circuit that stopped responding — go through the same microscope-level diagnostic as our iPhone board work.
Laptop & PC Motherboard Repair
Windows and gaming laptops come in with no-power faults, dead charging circuits, and liquid damage. Laptop boards are denser than phone boards, so diagnostic time is usually longer — we'll walk you through exactly what we find before quoting anything.
MacBook Logic Board Repair
MacBook and MacBook Pro logic boards fail for the same reasons as any other laptop board — liquid exposure, no-power faults, and damaged charging or backlight circuits — but Apple's board layouts are tightly packed, which is exactly where microsoldering experience matters most.
PlayStation Motherboard Repair
PS5 and PS4 consoles most often come in for HDMI port damage — the port is soldered directly to the board, so a bent pin or snagged cable becomes a board-level repair, not a cable problem. Console board work always happens in-shop on our bench equipment; there's no on-site option for console repair.
Xbox Motherboard Repair
Xbox Series S and Series X consoles follow the same pattern as PlayStation — HDMI port failures, no-power boards, and overheating-related damage are the most common board-level jobs we see. Bench work only; no on-site option for console repair.
How Motherboard Repair Works Here
Board-level work isn't a parts swap — it's diagnosis under a microscope, tracing a circuit until we find the exact component or trace that failed.
Free diagnostic
We open the device and test the board — power rails, shorts, corrosion, damaged ICs — before quoting anything.
Honest quote
Because board damage varies so much, we quote after diagnosis, not before. We'll explain exactly what we found and what it'll take to fix it.
Microsoldering repair
Our technicians rework or replace the failed component directly on the board under a microscope at our Watertown or Wakefield bench.
Testing & walkout
We run the board through power, charging, and stress tests before handing the device back, with your repair warranty and receipt.
Types of Board-Level Repair We Handle
No-power repair
Won't turn on even after a full charge. We trace the power rail to find the failed component.
Liquid damage repair
Board cleaning and component-level repair. Devices may lose original water resistance after any repair requiring the case to open.
Charging IC repair
Shows "connected" but won't charge — a precision microsoldering repair, not a port swap.
Backlight repair
Faint image with no backlight is usually a board fault, saving you from a full screen replacement.
HDMI & port repair
Loose or dead ports on consoles and laptops are commonly board-level rather than cable-level issues.
Short circuit repair
We isolate the short before any further repair — powering on a shorted board again can cause more damage.
Data recovery from a dead board
A dead board doesn't always mean lost data — if the storage chip is intact, recovery may be possible. See our data recovery service.
Our Microsoldering Lab
Watertown and Wakefield are our board-level specialist locations. Microsoldering requires a microscope, hot air rework station, and a clean bench environment — that equipment lives at these two shops. When customers drop off devices at our Newton or Burlington locations needing board-level work, the device is transported to whichever shop has capacity.
Timeline
If you drop off at Watertown or Wakefield directly, we diagnose same-day; the repair itself typically takes 2-3 days for straightforward jobs and up to 2-3 weeks for more complex rebuilds, depending on device condition, parts availability, diagnostic complexity, and current workload. If your device was dropped off at Newton or Burlington and needs transport, add time in each direction — we give you the full timeline at drop-off before any work starts.
If you suspect your repair needs board-level work — no power, no boot, water damage, intermittent charging that a port cleaning didn't fix, GPU artifacting on a MacBook — dropping off directly at Watertown or Wakefield saves the transport time.
Motherboard Repair Cost
Board-level repair pricing depends entirely on what's actually wrong. We don't quote a price until we've diagnosed the board, so nobody pays for guesswork.
| Device category | Typical starting range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Phone (iPhone, Samsung, other Android) | Price after quote | Varies by fault — charging IC vs. full liquid damage |
| Laptop / PC motherboard | Price after quote | Varies by chipset and component availability |
| MacBook logic board | Price after quote | Depends on generation and fault location |
| Game console (PS5, PS4, Xbox) | Price after quote | HDMI port and power rail repairs are most common |
Every board is different, so the price you get is the price after we've actually looked at it — not a guess from a phone call. Call (857) 302-2655 and describe the symptoms — we can often narrow down the likely cause before you come in.
Warranty & Payment
90-day warranty on board-level repairs
Motherboard and board-level repairs carry a 90-day warranty covering the specific work performed. Physical damage, new liquid damage, and pre-existing conditions unrelated to the repair aren't covered. Please note that devices may lose their original water resistance after any repair requiring the case to be opened. Receipt required for any warranty claim.
Payment methods
We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. A 3% convenience fee applies to all card and digital wallet payments, including Apple Pay. We do not accept American Express. Quoted repair prices are pre-tax — 6.25% Massachusetts sales tax applies at checkout.

Motherboard Repair FAQs
Can a motherboard be repaired, or does it always need to be replaced?
Most motherboard faults can be repaired at the component level — a damaged charging IC, a short, or corrosion often doesn't require a full board swap. We inspect the board under a microscope first and give you an honest answer for your specific device rather than defaulting to "replace it."
How much does motherboard repair cost?
Pricing depends on what's actually damaged, so we quote your price after the free diagnostic instead of guessing over the phone. Call (857) 302-2655 and describe the symptoms — we can often narrow down the likely cause before you come in.
How long does motherboard repair take?
Turnaround depends on the complexity of the issue, parts availability, and current workload. Some repairs are done in 2-3 days; more complex board rebuilds can take 2-3 weeks. We give our best estimate after diagnosis rather than promising an exact completion date.
Can a laptop motherboard be repaired, or do I need a new laptop?
Often, yes. Laptop motherboards fail from liquid spills, power surges, or a damaged charging circuit — all of which can frequently be repaired rather than requiring a full board or laptop replacement. We diagnose the specific fault before recommending replacement.
Do you repair iPhone motherboards?
Yes — no-power iPhones, liquid-damaged logic boards, and charging IC failures are among our most common repairs at our Watertown and Wakefield locations. We're not an Apple Authorized Service Provider, so board repairs use high-quality aftermarket and OEM-quality compatible components.
Can a PS5 motherboard be repaired, or do I need a new console?
In many cases, repair is possible — especially HDMI port damage, power circuit faults, and overheating-related component damage, the most common PS5 board issues we see. Full board replacement is sometimes the more practical option depending on what we find during diagnosis.
What causes motherboard failure?
The most common causes are liquid exposure and corrosion, power surges or shorts, physical damage from a drop, and overheating that damages nearby components over time. Age and dust buildup also play a role, especially in game consoles and laptops.
Do all Fix 'N Repair locations do motherboard repair?
Watertown and Wakefield perform board-level and microsoldering repair in-house. Newton and Burlington accept these repairs and transport the board to Watertown or Wakefield, which adds time to the turnaround. If your repair is urgent, starting at Watertown or Wakefield directly is faster.
Will I lose my data during motherboard repair?
We prioritize data preservation during every board repair, but we can't guarantee data survival on a physically damaged board. If your board is too damaged to repair, we may still be able to recover data separately through our data recovery service.
Is there a warranty on motherboard repair?
Most repairs include a limited warranty covering the specific work performed. Physical damage, new liquid damage, and pre-existing conditions unrelated to the repair aren't covered. We explain exactly what's covered when we hand back your device with your receipt.
