PS5 & PS4 HDMI Port RepairConsole turns on, TV says "No Signal" or the picture flickers.$150

The HDMI port is soldered straight to the motherboard. A yanked cable, a console knocked off a shelf while plugged in, or a fall cracks the plastic tongue inside or lifts the pins off their pads. It's the most common PlayStation repair we do.

We heat the old port off under a microscope, rebuild any lifted pads, solder in a new port, then test on a 4K display before the console goes back together. PS5 HDMI port replacement is $150, and most are done in 1 to 2 days. If the same hit also killed the HDMI encoder chip next to the port, a new port alone won't bring the picture back; we tell you after the diagnostic and quote the chip separately. Full walkthrough: why your PS5 shows No Signal.

Sound familiar?
  • "No Signal" with the light on
  • Picture cuts in and out
  • Cable feels loose in the port
  • Bent or pushed-in pins
  • Works on no TV, any cable
  • Started after a drop or cable pull

No Power, or PlayStation Keeps Turning OffNothing when you press power, or it randomly shuts off by itself.Free diagnostic

A PlayStation that won't turn on usually has one of three problems: a failed internal power supply, a shorted component on the motherboard, or a fault left behind by a power surge.

If your PlayStation keeps turning off by itself, look at when it happens. Shutting off during long or demanding games is almost always heat, which is the overheating repair below. Shutting off on the home screen, right after startup, or with the cord plugged straight into the wall points to the power supply or the board. Before you come in, plug it directly into a wall outlet instead of a power strip, and check that nothing is blocking the vents.

We test the power supply first because it's the cheaper fix. If it checks out, the fault is on the board, and that goes to our microsoldering bench. You get a price for the actual fault before we replace anything.

Signs it's power
  • No light, no beep, no fan
  • Beeps once, then nothing
  • Turns off during heavy games
  • Died after a storm or surge

PS4 White Light, Blue Light of Death & PS5 White LightBlinking white light with no picture, pulsing blue light, or a PS5 white light and a black screen.Board-level

PS4 white light with no display. When a PS4, PS4 Slim or PS4 Pro shows a blinking or solid white light but the TV stays black, the console is on and running but not sending a picture. That's why people call it the "white light of death." The usual causes are the HDMI port or the HDMI chip next to it, and less often a failing hard drive or a corrupted system update. Try another HDMI cable and TV first, then hold the power button until the second beep to start Safe Mode. If Safe Mode shows nothing either, it's hardware.

PS4 blue light of death. The light pulses blue and never turns white, and the console never finishes starting. The cause can be the power supply, the hard drive, or a failed solder joint under the main processor.

PS5 white light, black screen. On a PS5, a solid white light with nothing on screen is most often the HDMI port or HDMI chip, the same repair as above.

Every one of these is a symptom, not a diagnosis. The console goes on the bench, we find the failed part, and you decide whether the repair is worth it before we start. Chain shops typically won't touch these boards, and console reflows are excluded from their warranties.

Cleaning and mechanical repairs

PS5 Overheating Repair & Cleaning ServiceLoud fan, hot to the touch, games crash or the console shuts off. PS4 too.Free quote

Every PlayStation pulls air through the front and pushes it out the back, and with that air comes dust, pet hair and carpet lint. After a year or two the heatsink fins clog, the fan spins harder to keep up, and the console gets loud. Left long enough, it starts shutting down mid-game to protect itself.

Our PS5 cleaning service fixes most overheating: we open the console, clean the fan and heatsink, and check that the fan spins freely. If the fan itself is failing, PS5 overheating repair means replacing it. The same service works for a loud or overheating PS4. Before you book, check the basics: the console needs a few inches of open space on every side, and it shouldn't sit inside a closed TV cabinet.

When it needs a cleaning
  • Fan louder than it used to be
  • Hot air barely comes out the back
  • Shuts down during long sessions
  • Overheating warning on screen

Disc Drive RepairWon't read discs, won't eject, grinding or clicking noise.Free quote

Disc drive trouble shows up a few ways: an "unrecognized disc" error, a disc that won't come out, a drive that pulls the disc in and spits it back, or a grinding noise during loading. Sometimes it's dust on the laser lens; sometimes the eject mechanism or the laser has worn out.

We try the cheap fix first: cleaning and adjusting the drive. If a part has failed, we replace it and test with several discs before you pick up. On a stuck disc, don't pry at the slot. Bring it in and we'll get it out without scratching it.

Common disc problems
  • "Unrecognized disc" error
  • Disc stuck inside
  • Ejects on its own
  • Clicking or grinding

Try these before you drive over

  1. No picture? Test a different HDMI cable and a different TV, and check the TV input. Cables are the most common false alarm.
  2. Look into the HDMI port with a flashlight. A cracked tongue or bent pins means it's the port.
  3. Frozen or stuck on boot? Hold the power button until the second beep (about 7 seconds) to start Safe Mode.
  4. Overheating? Move it out of the cabinet and give it a few inches of space on every side.

Common Questions

PlayStation Repair: Questions Answered

Still not sure? Call (857) 302-2655 or read our full FAQ.

01

How much does PlayStation repair cost?

PS5 HDMI port replacement is $150. Other PlayStation repairs, including no power, the blue or white light of death, overheating and disc drive problems, are quoted after a free in-store diagnostic, because the price depends on which part actually failed. If the HDMI encoder chip is damaged along with the port, we quote that separately. You always get the price before any work starts. Prices are before Massachusetts sales tax, and card payments carry a 3% convenience fee.

02

How long does a PS5 or PS4 repair take?

Most PS5 HDMI port replacements are done in 1 to 2 days. Other repairs depend on what failed and whether the part is in stock, so we give you a timeline with the quote after the diagnostic. Rush service may be available depending on how busy the bench is; ask when you call (857) 302-2655. Board-level jobs dropped off in Newton or Burlington are carried to our Watertown or Wakefield bench, which can add a little time.

03

Can a PS5 with no signal be fixed, or do I need a new console?

In most cases it can be fixed. When a PS5 powers on but the TV shows No Signal, the HDMI port is the usual cause, and we replace it at the board level for $150. You keep your console and everything stored on it. Before you come in, rule out a bad cable or the wrong TV input by testing another cable and another TV. If it fails on both, it's the console.

04

Why is my PS4 light white but there's no picture?

A blinking or solid white light with a black TV means the PS4 is powered on but not sending video. Start with the easy checks: try another HDMI cable, another TV, and the correct TV input. Then hold the power button until the second beep to start Safe Mode, which uses a basic video signal. If there's still no picture, the fault is usually the HDMI port or the HDMI chip next to it. We confirm which one in a free diagnostic and quote it before any work starts.

05

Why does my PlayStation keep turning off by itself?

Look at when it shuts off. If it happens during long or demanding games, it's almost always heat: dust in the fan and heatsink, or a console boxed into a cabinet. If it turns off on the home screen, right after startup, or with the cord plugged straight into the wall, the power supply or the motherboard is the likely cause. Plug it directly into a wall outlet and clear the vents first. If it still shuts off, bring it in for a free diagnostic.

06

Will I lose my games and saves?

Hardware repairs like an HDMI port, a fan cleaning or a disc drive don't touch the internal storage, so your games and saves stay where they are. That's one big difference from sending a console to Sony, which usually means getting a refurbished unit back. If the fault is on the motherboard, we tell you before we start whether there's any risk to the data. Saves synced to PlayStation Plus cloud storage are safe either way.

07

Where can I get my PlayStation 5 or PS4 fixed near Boston?

At any of our four PlayStation repair shops near Boston. Board-level repairs, including HDMI ports, HDMI chips and power faults, are done at our microsoldering benches in Watertown (7 Main St) and Wakefield (18 Albion St). If Newton or Burlington is closer, drop it off there and we carry it to the bench for you, then you pick it up where you dropped it. All four shops are open 7 days a week, 10am to 8pm.

08

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk in any day between 10am and 8pm at Watertown, Newton, Burlington or Wakefield. The diagnostic is free in-store and takes no commitment. If you want to check whether a part is in stock, especially for a PlayStation Portal, call (857) 302-2655 first. You can also send your console model and the problem through the quote form at the top of this page and we'll reply with a price.

09

What does the warranty cover?

PlayStation repairs carry a 90-day warranty on the work we did and the parts we installed. It doesn't cover new drops or impact damage, liquid damage, or physical damage after the repair, and parts you bring in yourself aren't covered. Keep your receipt for any warranty claim; a texted or emailed receipt works. You can bring a warranty claim to any of our four shops. Full terms are on our warranty page.

10

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard and Apple Pay. Card payments carry a 3% convenience fee, and we don't accept American Express or checks. You pay when the repair is finished and tested, not up front, and nothing is added at pickup without your OK. Listed prices are before Massachusetts sales tax, so your receipt will show the repair price, sales tax and the convenience fee on card payments.
