Fix 'N Repair Warranty Policy — Lifetime on Screens, 90 Days on Everything Else

Every repair we do at our 4 Massachusetts shops comes with a warranty. Cellphone screen replacements and iPad screen replacements are backed by our lifetime warranty against four specific issues — touch sensitivity, ghost clicking, random clicking, and screen lifting. All other repairs are covered by a 90-day warranty. Read the full terms below so you know exactly what's covered and what's not — we'd rather be upfront than have an awkward conversation later. Lifetime Warranty on Cellphone & iPad Screens

Our most comprehensive warranty: every cellphone screen replacement and every iPad screen replacement we perform is backed by a lifetime warranty against four specific issues. This applies across all major phone brands we service — iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus, LG, and most other Android phones — and across all iPad models (iPad, iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini).

The lifetime warranty covers ONLY these four specific issues: touch sensitivity problems (touchscreen not responding consistently), ghost clicking (screen registering taps that aren't there), random clicking (phantom touch input), and screen lifting (replacement screen separating from the device frame). We don't put a time limit on these specific issues — bring it back whenever they appear.

What's covered under lifetime warranty

Examples of what we cover and have covered before: a customer's replacement screen started registering taps in the upper-left corner that the customer never made — that's ghost clicking, covered. Another customer's touchscreen stopped responding to taps on the right side of the screen six months after install, with no impact damage — that's a touch sensitivity issue, covered. A third customer noticed the edge of their replacement screen lifting slightly away from the device frame after a few weeks — that's screen lifting, covered, and we re-secured it free of charge.

What is NOT covered under lifetime warranty

Anything outside of those four specific issues falls outside the lifetime warranty. This includes things customers often assume should be covered but are not: dead pixels appearing on the replacement screen, OLED panel defects (dark spots, color bands, uneven backlight), screen burn-in patterns, dimming or color shifts over time, and any visible physical or liquid damage. See the "What's Not Covered" list below for the full breakdown.

The lifetime warranty is honored at all 4 of our Massachusetts shops — Wakefield, Watertown, Newton, and Burlington — regardless of where the original repair was performed.

90-Day Warranty on All Other Repairs

Every repair we perform that isn't a cellphone or iPad screen replacement is covered by our standard 90-day warranty. This is significantly longer than the typical 30-day warranties offered by competitors.

What's covered by the 90-day warranty

The 90-day warranty covers any defect with the replacement part we installed:

  • Battery replacements (iPhone, Samsung, iPad, laptop, MacBook, Apple Watch, gaming console)
  • Charging port repairs / replacements
  • Camera replacements (front and rear)
  • Speaker, earpiece, and microphone repairs
  • Button replacements (power, volume, home, action)
  • Back glass replacements
  • Laptop and MacBook screen replacements
  • Apple Watch screen replacements
  • Game console repairs (HDMI port, disc drive, controller, thermal cleaning)
  • Board-level component repair and microsoldering work

If the replacement part fails within 90 days of the original repair (without any new physical damage), bring the device back to any of our 4 shops and we'll diagnose the failure. If it's a defect in the part we installed, we replace it free of charge.

Important note on water damage and "no warranty" cases

Two categories of repair come with NO warranty, even within the 90 days:

Water damage repairs: If your device was exposed to water before you brought it in, we may be able to recover it, but no warranty applies. Water damage causes unpredictable secondary corrosion that can manifest weeks or months later, and there's no way to guarantee against that. We'll be upfront about this before we start the repair.

Customer-supplied parts: If you bring your own replacement part (purchased on Amazon, eBay, etc.) and ask us to install it, we cannot warranty the part itself — only our labor for the next 14 days. We typically don't recommend this because aftermarket part quality is unpredictable.

What's Covered vs What's Not Covered

The clearest way to understand our warranty: side-by-side comparison of what we DO cover and what we DO NOT cover.

Covered

  • Touch sensitivity issues (touchscreen not responding consistently)
  • Ghost clicking (screen registering taps that aren't there)
  • Random clicking (phantom touch input)
  • Screen lifting (replacement screen separating from device frame)

NOT Covered

  • Cracked or broken screens (new physical damage)
  • Water or liquid damage of any kind
  • LCD damage (lines, bleeding, distortion)
  • Black marks or dark spots on the display
  • Liquid spreading visible on screen even if NOT cracked
  • Dead pixels appearing on the replacement screen
  • OLED panel defects (color bands, uneven backlight)
  • Screen burn-in or image retention
  • Dimming or color shifts over time
  • Drops, falls, or impact damage
  • Damage from another shop's repair attempt after ours
  • Wear from environmental exposure (heat, cold cycling, sand)
  • Devices that had liquid damage before our repair
  • Customer-supplied parts (parts you provided)
  • Cosmetic damage (scratches, scuffs on the new screen)
  • Damage caused by improper use or unauthorized modifications

Common misconception: "My screen isn't cracked, so it must be a warranty issue." Not always. Our lifetime warranty covers only four specific issues: touch sensitivity, ghost clicking, random clicking, and screen lifting. Lines, dark marks, dead pixels, color shifts, and liquid spreading on the display all fall outside that scope — even if the screen isn't visibly cracked. We'll always do an honest in-shop diagnostic to determine what's happening.

How to Make a Warranty Claim

Simple process. No paperwork forms, no online portal to navigate.

1

Bring in the device

Walk in to any of our 4 shops Mon-Sat 10am-8pm. No appointment needed.

2

We diagnose the issue

Free in-shop diagnostic to determine if it's a covered issue or new damage.

3

We tell you straight

If it's one of the four covered issues, we replace it free. If it's something else, we quote the repair.

4

Pick it back up

Most warranty replacements complete same-day with parts in stock.

What you need to bring

You must bring your receipt as proof of the original repair. We accept any of these forms — whatever you have handy works:

  • Physical paper receipt (the one we handed you at pickup)
  • Photo or picture of the receipt (taken with your phone)
  • Text message receipt (if we texted you a receipt after the original repair)
  • Email receipt (if we emailed you a receipt after the original repair)

The receipt confirms the device was repaired by us, what repair was performed, and when. This is how we verify the warranty applies to your specific device.

What if you don't have a receipt?

Without proof of the original repair, we can't verify the warranty applies to your device. If you've lost all forms of your receipt (no paper copy, no photo, no text, no email), call the shop where you originally had the work done — sometimes we can locate the record using your phone number, device serial number, or repair date. Call before driving over so we can check first.

No Refunds Policy

We want to be upfront about this so there are no surprises later.

Fix 'N Repair operates a strict no-refunds policy once a repair service has been completed. If you're unhappy with a repair, we address it via the warranty (free replacement of the defective part) — not via a money-back refund. This applies to all repairs across all 4 of our shops.

Why no refunds?

Repair work involves significant labor time and consumed parts. Once we've disassembled your device, installed the replacement part, and reassembled, those parts and labor hours can't be undone. Other phone repair shops in Boston operate the same way for the same reason — it's standard industry practice.

What we DO offer instead of refunds

Warranty coverage on every repair, with lifetime warranty on cellphone and iPad screens for touch sensitivity, ghost clicking, random clicking, and screen lifting, and 90-day warranty on all other repairs. If the part we installed has a covered issue, we replace it free under warranty — that's the remedy.

Free in-shop diagnostic before any work begins. You see the quote, you agree to the price, and only then do we start the repair. If the quote isn't right for you, walk away — no charge for the diagnostic.

Honest assessment if we don't think the repair is worth doing. If your device is at the end of its useful life or the repair cost exceeds the value, we'll tell you straight rather than take your money.

Warranty FAQ

The most common questions about our warranty policy.

How does your lifetime screen warranty actually work?

Our lifetime warranty on cellphone and iPad screens covers four specific issues only: touch sensitivity problems, ghost clicking, random clicking, and screen lifting. There's no time limit on claims for those four issues — bring the device in whenever one of them appears (one month, one year, three years from now). If we determine the issue falls into one of those four categories, we replace the screen free of charge.

What the lifetime warranty does NOT cover: dead pixels, OLED panel defects, color bands, screen burn-in, dimming, color shifts, or any visible physical or liquid damage. These all fall outside the lifetime warranty scope, regardless of when they appear.

The "lifetime" refers to the life of the replacement screen we installed. If you eventually replace the device entirely or replace the screen again, the warranty resets to the new repair. We honor the warranty at all 4 of our Massachusetts shops regardless of where the original repair was performed.

My screen has lines on it but I never dropped my phone. Is that a warranty issue?

Lines on the screen are not covered by our warranty, even if you don't recall dropping the phone. Our lifetime warranty covers only four specific issues: touch sensitivity, ghost clicking, random clicking, and screen lifting. Lines, dark marks, dead pixels, color distortion, and OLED issues fall outside that scope, regardless of cause.

Sometimes damage happens without the customer noticing — a small drop the device survived externally, sitting on the phone in a pocket, a quick splash that didn't feel like much. The damage to the display can appear hours or days later as lines or marks. We understand it's frustrating, but lines/marks/dead pixels simply aren't within the warranty scope we offer.

Bring it in for free diagnostic. We'll tell you straight what's happening and quote a new screen replacement if you want to proceed.

My phone got wet and the screen looks weird. Is that covered?

Water or liquid damage is not covered by our warranty, even if the screen isn't visibly cracked. This includes liquid spreading visible on the display, condensation behind the screen, lines or color shifts after water exposure, and touchscreen ghost touches after water exposure.

Water damage causes unpredictable secondary corrosion that can affect multiple components over days or weeks. There's no reasonable way to warranty against it.

Bring it in — we can often recover water-damaged devices. Just understand the recovery work itself comes with no warranty for the same reason.

Do I need my receipt to make a warranty claim?

Yes — proof of the original repair is required to make a warranty claim. We accept any of these forms: the physical paper receipt, a photo or picture of the receipt taken on your phone, a text message receipt (if we texted one to you), or an email receipt (if we emailed one to you). Whichever you have works.

The receipt is how we verify that the device was repaired by us, what repair was performed, and when. Without that proof, we can't confirm the warranty applies to your specific device.

If you've lost every form of your receipt — no paper, no photo, no text, no email — call the shop where the original repair was done. Sometimes we can locate the service record using your phone number, device serial number, or rough repair date. Call before driving over so we can check first and tell you whether we can locate the record.

Can I get my warranty repair done at a different Fix 'N Repair location than where the original repair was done?

Yes — the warranty is honored at all 4 of our Massachusetts shops, regardless of where the original repair was performed. If you got your iPhone screen replaced at our Watertown shop and you've moved closer to Newton, you can bring the warranty claim to the Newton shop.

Same warranty terms, same coverage, same process at every location. Service records sync across all 4 shops, so any technician can look up your repair history.

If I cracked my screen again, does the warranty cover the second repair?

No — new physical damage is not covered by warranty, regardless of when it happens after the original repair. If you crack the screen we installed (whether one week later or one year later), that's a new repair at the regular price.

The good news: we don't upcharge for second or third repairs. Same price as the first time. We're honest about that. We'd rather have you come back to us than have you go to a different shop because you assumed we'd charge more.

If your phone is breaking repeatedly, that's worth a conversation. Sometimes a different case, a screen protector recommendation, or honestly looking at whether the device is worth continuing to repair is the better call.

Do you offer refunds if I'm not satisfied?

We have a strict no-refunds policy once a repair has been completed. Repair work consumes labor time and parts that can't be undone after install, which is why no-refunds is standard industry practice.

What we DO offer if you're not satisfied: the warranty replacement. If the part we installed has any defect during the warranty period, we replace it free of charge. If you have concerns about your repair, bring the device back as soon as possible so we can address it under warranty rather than letting time pass.

Before any repair starts, you get a free in-shop diagnostic and a written quote. If you're not comfortable with the quote, walk away — no charge.

What if my device had water damage BEFORE I brought it to you?

Devices with prior water damage are excluded from warranty coverage entirely, even if we successfully recover them. We'll always tell you upfront if water damage is detected during diagnostic, and explain that any work we do comes with no warranty.

This isn't a punishment — it's an honest reflection of the unpredictability of liquid damage. Water can cause corrosion that's invisible during initial repair but manifests weeks or months later as secondary failures (charging port stops working, speaker dies, camera focus fails). We can't guarantee against problems we can't see.

If I brought my own part for the repair, is it covered by warranty?

Customer-supplied parts are not covered by our standard warranty. If you bring your own replacement part (purchased on Amazon, eBay, or elsewhere) and ask us to install it, we only warranty our labor for 14 days. The part itself has no warranty from us.

We typically don't recommend customer-supplied parts because aftermarket part quality varies enormously, and a low-quality part will fail regardless of how skillfully it's installed. If you're trying to save money, we usually have access to the same parts at competitive prices, and our parts come with our full warranty.

If another repair shop worked on my device after Fix 'N Repair did, am I still covered?

No — if another shop has worked on the device after our repair, the warranty is void. We can't verify what they did, what parts they installed, or what damage may have occurred during their work.

Common situation: you get a screen replacement from us, then a year later have water damage, take it to a different shop for water damage recovery. They open the device, do their work, reassemble it. A month after that, our original screen develops a touch issue. At that point we can't determine whether the issue was originally there or something that happened during the water damage repair. Warranty is voided.

Best practice: bring all subsequent repairs back to us. Continuity of service preserves the warranty.

How long does a warranty replacement take?

Most warranty replacements complete same-day at our shops if we have the part in stock — which we usually do for common models (iPhone X-17, Samsung Galaxy S/Note series, iPad standard/Pro/Air/mini).

For less common phones, newer flagship Pro Max models, or specialty parts, allow 2-5 business days for ordering. We'll give you a realistic time estimate at intake.

The diagnostic portion (determining if it's a covered issue or something outside the warranty scope) usually takes 15-30 minutes at the counter.

What if I disagree with your diagnosis (you say it's damage, I say it's a defect)?

Talk to us. Our technicians can usually walk you through what they're seeing during the diagnostic — they'll show you the marks, lines, or evidence under shop lighting so you can see what they're seeing.

If you're still convinced the issue falls into one of the four covered categories (touch sensitivity, ghost clicking, random clicking, screen lifting), you're welcome to get a second opinion from another shop or an Apple authorized service center. We'd rather have you confident in our assessment than feel like we're trying to deny a legitimate claim.

Honest reality: in 6+ years of operation, the vast majority of "is this a warranty issue?" cases turn out to be damage or issues outside our warranty scope (dead pixels, OLED defects, etc.), not the covered touch/lifting issues. We approach every diagnostic the same way — looking for the truth, not looking to avoid honoring warranties.
